It is with great sorrow that we share the passing of Ron “Duck” Wyatt, who died peacefully on February 11, 2026, surrounded by family and close friends. Duck was a man who inspired strong opinions; you either admired him or didn’t, but there was no neutral ground. He lived his life with authenticity, unwavering in his principles, and boldly true to himself. His legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and in the countless lives he touched throughout his service to his country and community.
Duck’s life was marked by a deep commitment to service. He was a proud United States Marine, a deputy with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, and most recently, the Town Supervisor of Troutman. His dedication to the people of Iredell County was unmatched. Few can claim to have given so much of themselves to their country, their county, and their community over such an extended period.
He began his career in law enforcement with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office in 1989, working on patrol. Throughout his career, Duck’s leadership and knowledge were evident. He was promoted to Detective in 1993 and served as Sergeant in the Detention Center in 1997. As a D.A.R.E. Officer, Detective Sergeant, and later Patrol Lieutenant, Duck’s impact on the department was profound. He retired in 2008 after decades of service, yet his work didn’t end there.
After his retirement, Duck continued to serve Iredell County, first as the Register of Deeds and later as the Town Manager of Troutman. His leadership and service extended far beyond the law enforcement community, leaving a lasting imprint on the local area.
Duck was many things to many people—husband, father, Marine, law enforcement officer, and public servant. But above all, he was unapologetically himself. His articulate speech, memorable one-liners, and the occasional laugh that lightened even the most serious moments are what we will remember most. His legacy is woven into the fabric of Iredell County, and he will never be forgotten.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Wyatt family, and to all who had the honor of working with Duck or calling him a friend. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.
Rest in peace, Duck. Your impact on this world was immeasurable, and you will be missed by many, but remembered by even more.
